ORGANIZATIONAL LGBTQ COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT TOOL

ORGANIZATIONAL
ASSESSMENT
FORM.

Sections of the tool were adapted from the Ontario Public Health Association (OPHA) “A Positive Space is a Healthy Place” and the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) “Positive Space Initiative.”

We encourage everyone to use this tool as many times as needed. This tool is only a first step to get you thinking about accessibility. Results of the survey will be used for organizations participating in the Safer Spaces program, which is an entire program that can assist your organization in becoming more LGBTQ accessible. We recommend to have as many people as possible, or at least 60% of the organization, to complete the survey in order to have a more accurate representation of the organization’s current LGBTQ accessibility. To find out more, contact DaleB@GilbertCentre.ca.

Please note this is not a fully encompassing assessment, it is a first step; building competency and creating a safe space is an ongoing endeavor. The goal of the assessment is to provide a generalized understanding of where your organization is at right now in creating these welcoming spaces, and is the first process of many.

  • STAFF KNOWLEDGE

    WHY DOES IT MATTER?

By providing staff with training, new knowledge is offered. This can lead to understanding, which leads to comfort. The more we know, the more comfortable we are. It’s not about changing values or beliefs, it is about learning how to treat everyone with respect and create an inclusive environment.
